A pretty unique POP that I got this year from my friend! She found this and snagged it for me and I'm thrilled! Without further adieu, let's look into the review, shall we?
Wrestling rings would most likely be unique to WWE POPs and it makes sense (too lazy at the moment to see if they do TNA and AEW).
So this POP set comes with two POPs and a wrestling ring. Let's look at the Wrestling Ring first, shall we?
Pretty accurate to the actual Wrestlemania ring from the 1996 event (holy crap, 1996! And I remember that Wrestlemania too). From the colors of the ropes, the banners with the "Wrestlemania" writing, and, of course, the "Wrestlemania XII" logo on the middle of the ring itself! I do like how the ring turned out! The ropes and the turnbuckles all look legit for a stylized Funko form. We will not have either POPs bouncing off the ropes, but they look authentic. Speaking of the two POPs.
I'll try not to get too heavy with these two's background drama and story since many great folks did it before me. But do look it up! I suggest Wrestling Bios since he does a fine job on the history of many mainstream WWE/WCW behind-the-scenes stories.
Going to start with HBK. Yes, I'm a bigger fan of Shawn Michaels then and even now. He's got the flashier moves, he's louder, and I love his smug attitude. Now he's worn many different outfits and personally, his WMXII isn't my favorite but very iconic. White and gold always represent 'grand' and special. It's a definite variation of his usual outfits with how the boots are, the gloves/wristpads, and his tights. Not a lot of sculpting was done and his hair has the standard Funko style. His pose is a moment in his usual entrance shenanigans. Yes, this man is an entertainer. It was not bad work on it all in all. I don't have any complaints but nothing stands out to make it special.
The colors aren't too bad. I feel like the choice of color for his hair is slightly off, it feels like it should've been darker. But my main thing with his hair color is that the transition between the hair and skin is sometimes off.
Shawn Michaels in this POP form isn't too bad. It's nothing grand, and I'd even dare say that I wouldn't get this POP on his own, but there is something very cool about him.
I like Bret Hart but don't think he is as entertaining as Shawn Michaels. A lot of his promo skills didn't hit the mark for me either so guess who I sided with when all of that feuding was happening? His POP, while having all the details we'd expect from Funko, isn't exactly doing Bret any favors. The Hitman is standing very neutral, and while we've had many POPs like this, I think his signature pose (hands to the side as he is hamming it up to the crowd) would have done some good here. Regardless, I do love the sculpting done on his boots and singlet, not to mention those glasses are classic Bret Hart style! Standard execution but I feel they could've done more to pay homage to Bret's posture.
The colors are pretty good for this POP. Bret Hart is usually known for his black, pink, and white colors and they are all present here with his singlet dominantly black and his boots white with pink highlights. A lot of good work is put into Bret's decals and logos, which I can appreciate. His hair is a bit on the lighter side, but meh. All in all, the coloring is clean and precise so no real complaints.
Once again, not a very strong POP on its own accord but I'm definitely more impressed with the coloring job. I can confidently say that this is a good enough POP for Bret Hart fans out there!
Here is POP Shawn Michaels & POP Bret Hart next to POP Undertaker. All three are from the New Generation era! Not the best era, for sure. The POPs look good though.
The gimmick is the Wrestlemania XII moment that we deserve! Yes, on their own, each POP may not be winning any awards but together, it's pretty good. I'm thrilled to have it; it represents a childhood moment. My friend was very thoughtful of getting this for me and I adore her for it! Recommend?! Yes! The POPs have details and good coloring, their lack of good posing is made up for with the ring gimmick. I love it. Any WWF/WWE fans can appreciate this.
Until Next Time!
