Funko POP: Gogeta

Writer's picture: OnyxOnyx

Dragonball Super Broly was a good movie to enjoy some flashy Dragonball shenanigans. We finally get Broly and Gogeta canon to the Dragonball universe. With a popular movie like that comes a few lovely merchandise and so here we are with a POP of Gogeta. Let's get into the review, shall we?

This isn't a half-bad aset. Of course, I'm going to be getting any of these I don't think. Two POPs in this set aren't shown on the box. That's okay. I'm sure one of them will find its way here, right?

Not a bobblehead
Not a bobblehead

This is a very 'big-headed' POP. At least, more than usual. Of course, everyone is aware of Dragonball and the idea of Super Saiyan. Their POPs tend to get a bigger head space since their spiked hair just extend as high as they can manage. Of course, Gogeta here is just base Gogeta--the SSJ version is a chase--a variant that I must have one day. Despite him not being in his SSJ form, the clothing is all the same in terms of design and it's all present here with this POP. The vest, the belt, the boots, and the pants, are all here to define Gogeta's simple but signature look. His hair, one of Gogeta's prominent features is also detailed with his hairstyle. One can see just how easy it is to give this guy the SSJ variant, eh?

The pose is pretty simple also. It's a fighting pose, fist up, feet spread apart, those eyebrows curled and showing that Gogeta is not messing around. I do like the pose. It allows us to see all of Gogetan's fine details like the wrinkles on his pants, the sash on his waist 'flowing', and the musculature on his arms and body. Yes, they did a fine job sculpting this guy.

Love the work put into his hair!

Gogeta's color scheme isn't anything too crazy either. I love the cooler colors, with a bit of light coloring here and there to add some contrast. All of the colors are done cleanly and accurately so there's no complaints from me. Even the black hair, while not shadowed or given extra color details, still takes in lighting quite well so it looks shaded. Again, nothing to complain about.

Seeing the SSJ Goku and Vegeta in the background charging up is a nice shot!

I like this POP a lot more than I thought I would. Honestly, I just wanted the SSJ Gogeta Chase but getting the common, I got more appreciation out of him. Believe me, I'm going after that chase but for now, I can honestly say that this one is a recommendation. Not sure if getting the SSJ makes this one redundant. Guess we'll see when we get there. But good details, a nice paint job, and a good enough pose... I'd say this one's got a winning formula.

Until Next Time!
