POP movies! This time around, we got Raph from the TMNT movie from the 90s! This is from a wave that is dedicated to the Ninja Turtles in their first live-action appearance. Still the best one, mind you. At any rate, let's take a look at Raphael, shall we?
This is a pretty good set. I'm positive that I won't be getting any more from this wave other than gifting them. Raphael here is a gift for a very special little guy! If I was to get one for myself it would be Leonardo but... who would get just ONE Ninja Turtle and not collect everyone?
This look for the turtles is pretty iconic. The cartoon version is goofy, but it's awesome when Raph puts on a modified outfit in the movie! The POP version of him got that look just right, albeit it has more vibrant coloring to him compared to the movie, but that all comes down to the lighting and the scene shot. But details are pretty good with the trenchcoat getting the wrinkles, the buttons, the backpack (which I don't think he had on during the movie?), and to finish off the outfit, Raph's got the hat too. The pose is simple, hands inside his pocket while Raph is standing with a serious and 'I mean business' vibe to him. I love the gritting look too! All in all, he is sculpted pretty well.
I like the colors for this guy. Just to preface it again, he seems a bit more vibrant than his movie counterpart, but that's just the lighting and plastic/paint can't fully replicate the ambiance of a character. But I'd imagine that if Raph in disguise was fully in the spotlight while fighting Casey Jones, he'd look like this.
I know two vastly different versions, but seeing them together is good.
Two dudes with attitudes wearing trench coats and a hat. I know they are two different properties, but I wanted to see them next to each other.
POP: Turtles & a Wolverine
POP Raphael in Disguise is next to NECA: Raphael (TMNT Movie). With how NECA colored their Raph, it's obvious that maybe Funko could've given a darker tint to this Raphael. Who knows. But the vibrant look is a flare from the POP version.
I can recommend this POP, for sure. This is just a gift and I won't be getting the others, but it was nice to see this version of Raph in POP form. Got to appreciate the little details put here too. For Raphael/TMNT fans, this is a good addition. A must? Not sure, but I'd say he doesn't hurt to have.
