Who the heck is Chasm?! I've seen pictures of him but I never really cared to find out about his back story. However, I stumbled on this POP when they were showing previews and I ended up getting a good read on him--man, Ben Reilly, you've got it bad this entire time. Let's see how his POP treated him, eh?
This is a gift from my good friend. Funny enough, she seemed to have fueled a good portion of this wave!
There's some good sculpting done with this particular POP. The flames coming out of him is a nice little touch and the mask design gives the face depth--I am happy that Funko spends the time to sculpt these portions of Spider-Men (or women) POPs. The pose isn't entirely a natural Spidey pose. And while Ben is standing there looking less Spidey-like, he isn't posed to vanilla to the point that he seems static. There is an implied readiness to fight and I do like it. The pose also allows for the collector to take in all the details Funko put into him.
Chasm's color scheme is a bit unique. The mix of dark purple, neon green, and black has a very complimenting look to it. For his POP iteration, Funko made sure that we get that same aesthetic by getting the colors right. I love the plastic used for his 'flames'. The mask design has a bit of paint defects with my copy, but all in all, I'm not complaining. The paint and the colors, overall, really come together.
I can probably read up on what goes on with Chasm and his powers but I'm going to stay away from reading comics nowadays. But that's what the guy looks like in the comics.
While not a must for everyone, for me, it was a good addition. My good friend adored this one a lot and got him for me as a surprise. Had she known Chasm's full story beforehand though, haha! I do like how he is a good contrast next to the other Spider-Men I own. Good POP all in all!
Until Next Time!
