Ah, Beetlejuice! I watched the original Beetlejuice way back then and have fond memories of it. I have yet to see the sequel, but I heard it's not too bad and it did garner a rise in Beetlejuice merchandise both for the original and the sequel. Of course, Funko jumped at the opportunity and here we are with a review of the 2-pack of the titular character and Lydia. with that said, let's get to it!
Most likely I won't be getting any more of these POPs. But this set doesn't look too bad. Funny how Winona and Jenna got Elder Scrolls' related name--I know! Beetlejuice (original) came out way before 2011, but come on! Lydia? Astrid?
Let's start with the man himself! The pose is perfect! It's got that confidence that Beetlejuice had and a POP with a rare sculpted mouth--which adds to the overall look. I love the suit, love the little wrinkles put on him. The marks and skin defection on his head are also well done, they almost look organic, which is disgusting and impressive all at the same time. There are a lot of little details with this POP and it's easier to appreciate when it's in person. I love his hair too! Very wild and all over the place.
The paint and colors make this POP! Beetlejuice's face got a lot of love with all the paint details on his defective skin. I love the two-tone shoes that clash perfectly against the burgundy suit. That hair also just has a good pastel color to it and it has some shadowing effect which gives it more depth. Funko nailed it with this one!
Beetlejuice is a pretty good POP on his own. He's got nice details, and a solid coloring work, and I do like his overall look. This Beetlejuice is a win.
Now Lydia is also posed as very neutral like Beetlejuice. But much like her counterpart, Lydia's details are all on her clothing and hair. First off, that frilled-layered dress has a lot going on from the different layers to the wrinkles, and to the overall design. It's well done. It looks like a dress. She's also holding a rose, which looks like what it's supposed to. Her hair has a lot of things happening with it and it's well sculpted. Overall, despite the very non-dynamic pose, there are plenty of details and work to admire about this POP.
The colors are pretty simple but I do love the two different reds used on her dress. The black is solid and I do love that eye shadow. The pale skin is also accurate to Lydia as well. Funko also did a good job ensuring we got a cleanly executed paint job. I can't complain.
As a POP, there is plenty to like with Lydia. Great details on her dress, a fitting pose, and a paint job with no obvious defects. This POP is a win.
The pair of these complement each other. I wouldn't get one by itself which is a good thing they're a 2-pack. Is it a must? I wouldn't say so. But these POPs got some good wins on their own. I'd say, at the end of the day, I have two good POPs for the Halloween season. I do need to see the sequel though.
Until Next Time!
