So let's talk about #FFXVI and the brand-new trailer, eh? Well, before we talk about it let's just watch it, shall we (if you haven't seen it already, that is)? Thank you, Square Enix, for this by the way.
"Age-restricted", it says. Well, I suppose take a gander through YouTube and then we can go back here. Trust me, it's worth it.
So the trailer previous to this got heavy into the Eikons and some of the characters. This one touches more on the characters introduced prior and also did the job of Introducing more of the main casts other than Clive and also touches on the kingdoms. Not going to get heavy on the lore too much but I do want to poke a bit with the characters that we are given! Also, I took some quotes from the official Final Fantasy XVI page itself for some of the quotes.
Hugo Kupka
"...Dominant of the Eikon Titan thrust him to the forefront of Dhalmekian politics."
Big guy and the one who will primarily represent Titan in this game. He does look the part and based on what we have seen of him, he definitely has the attitude for it. Seems like he's going to be a very very tough guy to beat.
Benedikta Harman
"..Dominant of the Eikon Garuda, Warden of the Wind..."
Now Garuda is a #FFXIV homegrown Eikon/Summon/Esper/Eidolon. Someone that Creative Business Unit III is quite proud of and definitely deserves the right to showcase her. From what I have seen, she is going to be an absolute character both in her presence and in her boss fight sequence. Got the feeling she is going to be a memorable one. Yoshi-P and the team ain't gonna make her just let out a small gust for nothing.
And one of the newer characters featured more prominently this trailer is Dion Lesage--a Dragoon and connectedd to Bahamut. From the way the gameplay goes, seems only Clive will be the main character but I am hoping someone like Dion (and others) do the join the fray akin to guest characters in FFXIV. I am missing the classic party but I do happily welcome some of the changes. Especially when the characters seem interesting.
Then there is Barnabas--Dominant of Odin himself. Odin wasn't as prominent in FFXIV as I would like but it seems he is going to play a major role in FFXVI. Seems like Odin's human representative has a bit of... vibe to him? Too soon to assume but he might be on the antagonist side? Don't know. We shall see, eh?
This trailer is really all about the different kingdoms and a small glimpse of the struggles they are going through. Who their Elements/Eikons are and, dare I say, the trailer talks slightly about their ambitions. So... all in all, I really like this trailer. The gameplay they show is amazing--I definitely didn't talk about it or even get screenshots, but we all know it's going to be good. It does its job for sure. I'm hyped! 2023 is too far away. No doubt more trailers are going to drop and I'm definitely going to keep an eye out and drop those here. And I know, it's late, and underwhelming, but my blog isn't about getting things first or the more robust reviews or trailer reaction. There are definitely other areas to get that! But I am just excited. Period.
