Got ourselves an import, eh? Yes, we do! We have Marin Kitagawa from My Dress Up Darling! Preordered some time back, I finally got her and here she is ready for a review!
My Dress Up Darling is a weird anime. Well, okay, not necessarily that weird but it is odd in a sense that, well, it's pretty straightforward with what it's trying to do. Marin is the main attraction and that's all I have to say about that. Aniplex made sure to capitalize on My Dress Up Darling's vibe and the box captures most of the vibe of the anime. I'm all for it, of course.
The statue is a showcase for the box. Would've loved an official art version of this figurine, but oh well. This isn't #Bighoujo.
Alright, on to the character! Marin is a tease. She seems confident and outgoing but when it comes to Gojo, she seems to lose some of her composure more often than not. It's a nice show of weakness for a gal who seems to have it all going. She's also an avid cosplayer but doesn't know how to make her outfits... which is where Gojo comes in. And that is where the adventures of the two unlikely pair started. I watched season one and found a charm with the show. It has a purpose with fan service, that much is obvious, but there is a bit of heart for those looking for an unlikely romantic duo. I'll most likely watch season 2 whenever that comes in.
There is some good work done with this figurine. The pose is the first thing that is easy to talk about. It's a Marin pose with her hands doing a peace sign on her face. The way she is bent over is something that she does (won't talk about it....) and she is, of course, wearing her signature schoolgirl uniform. Oh, there's also her bag with all the charms that she proudly shows off. There are a lot of details to appreciate that we will be going over throughout this review.
Yes, the pose. I do like the dynamic of it and her hair, clothes, and overall 'demeanor' really play off the playful moment. The hair is also well done with the strands going in different directions due to Marin's implied movement or perhaps the wind. I do feel this is one of this figurine's stronger points since hair is hard to replicate when we are talking about highly detailed figures. There are a lot of strands sculpted, giving it as much organic look as possible--or at least the sculpt work copied as much of the anime vibe as it possibly can.
Time to talk about the magnificent work done on the clothing. There are a lot of good effort that gives the clothing the look it needs to make it look fluid--or organic. The strain and wrinkles from Marin's 'movements' really flow well. A strong point, truly giving it a higher-end feel to match the price.
Yeah, the fan service is there for anyone looking. If not, it's going to be easy to catch even if you are not looking.
Color is one of the strong points, for sure. It's a spot-accurate plastic version of the anime. Marin wears a lot of bright colors and it translates well for this statue. Her blonde hair with pink tips came out well. Her skin tone also contrasts well. With her socks, shoes, and bag the only dark tones with this statue, they also do well to juxtapose with the entire color scheme.
It truly did come out well together. The colors and pose came out amazing! I mean look at that girl doing her thing, right?
The base isn't something too grand or anything that I'm going to say it's the best stand I've seen.
There are also some adorable details on the bag with the pins and keychains. The strains on her tote are also quite organic looking.
The hair has good movement. The hair. That's what I'm looking at, that's for sure.
Alright, if we want to talk about it, yes, there is a good-looking scarlet red for her undergarment. Also, there is some fine sculpting too, so there you go.
I like the overall presentation of this figurine. It's the personality and the vibe of the anime character from the aesthetics, all the way to the pose.
Can I recommend Aniplex Marin Kitagawa? Pricepoint and all, I think it's a hard sell. There are some good things with this piece though. Well done sculpting, the colors are vibrant, and the accuracy is spot on. For those who are fans of Marin, there's something to fork their cash out for. For a casual fan like me, again, hard sell, but I am glad I have her. All in all, a good addition. Overall, it's a recommendation!
Until Next Time!
