Whoa! 2024 ended! And what a year it was! My commissioning hobby did not take the back burner, though I will say that it slowed down slightly. Regardless, that didn't take away from the amazing collaborations I had for 2024. Compared to 2023, I'd say I was more super focus on a couple of specific projects and that's okay. So without further adieu, let's just take a look at some of my reoccurring prerequisites for something to cut my list.
Accuracy: Since I commission a myriad of different artists (and have been since I started), it's more than safe to say that the various styles will alter the measurement of accuracy. A certain character, let's just say Elsa, will not look the same from artist to artist and that's just the fact of commissions and/or fan art. Take that same idea with Elsa: as long as one can look at the drawing and SAY it's Elsa, most of her features are present and said character is recognizable and the style is satisfying and complimenting to the Disney Queen (or insert whatever character we are looking at here), then accuracy is there.
Price Tag: This is also a pretty subjective area since the different caliber of artists charge differently, and that is understandable. But it does play a BIG factor in a Commission's status, whether it be good or bad. Expensive does not always equal HIGHER quality after all.
Time: Another factor that is also subjective. Time is money, yes, but something that took some time to do but produced some jaw-dropping artwork will be considered to be in the top ten. On the other side of the coin, if something takes more than a few weeks and the result is something I enjoy but nothing grand (and I paid good money for it), then it's going to have a hard time getting my top favorite.
Client and Customer Experience: This may not have anything to do with the quality of the art and/or the caliber of the artist but I am a big fan of customer service and being treated like someone who is giving good money to get something done is important. Almost all of the artists I have worked with are professional so this hasn't been an issue with me. But there have been some artists who took a step above just to ensure my experience was great. They spend the time to communicate for clarification and for the sake of following up. The experience also becomes more satisfying if the artist just spends the time to show appreciation for the business I am giving him/her.
Personal Preference: Now obviously this plays a big part. When it comes to commissioning, there are a lot of areas that personal preference that can play a big part in my decision such as the character/s that are drawn, what kind of scenario, what is the theme (pin-up, just awesome fanart, fetish... etc), and the meaning behind the commission. While it's hard NOT to put this at the forefront of my decision, I'm going to say right now that it's a huge reason why some of these drawings made it to the top ten and beat the others. Just saying.
Alright! That's that! Pay the artists some love folks! Links will always be with the art and/or within the description. Let's get into the goodies, shall we?
::Honorable Mentions (Gifs & Collaborations)::
As always, going to look into some of the gifts and/or collaborations I had for 2024. As always, the deviants mentioned here are godsent so do check out their galleries to see more of the same!
FourPieces (Arlen vs Kaga Series & Gift)
FourPieces continues to support my gallery with his renders. As always, I can't help but appreciate everything that the does. The Arlen vs Kaga series is on its 13th pic and, of course, he continues to support other OCs with the Crusade additions. Thank you, Fours! Here's to 2025 for you, sir!
Gift: Arlen's Crusade (Tifa Lockhart) by: JustSomeGuy
The addition of Tifa Lockhart in the Crusade was a commission-turned-gift from JustSomeGuy! He was able to dish this out at the beginning of 2024 and I can't be any more grateful! Three variant clothing with a few gag and expression variations. I love this! And Arlen is such a teaser, eh?
Runner Up - Kaitlin's Front Page (Epilogue) by: Demitetus
This was a really fun commission! Demitetus offers simple chair-tied Damsel commissions that I couldn't help but take advantage of! Of course, Kaitlin had to get some taste of the good ole classic... and with an outfit she wore during the last scene of Kaitiln's Front Page!
Runner Up - Kaitlin's Front Page (Retake 7) by: Lunara
2024 was the 30th Anniversary of Kaitlin's Front Page. Needless to say, for me, that's going to be a celebration. Lunara was able to pull this one off for October 5 and I was pretty happy with it!
Runner Up - Arlen's Crusade (Sailor Pluto) by: Sleepy-Comics
I wanted to get this on the top 10. I feel like it is sitting somewhere in the 7s or 8s, something like that. As always, Sleepy did an amazing job on Setsuna and the vibe is just right.
::Top 10 Commissions of 2024::
I feel like I didn't commission as much in 2024 as I did in previous years. But what I did get this year still brought lots of joy to me and I can't help but appreciate the fact that after all these years, I'm still able to do it. With that said, let's go ahead and see what 2024 looks like, shall we?
by: ThunkStudio
This commission came later in the year but it was a favorite. I really can't see the end of Arlen's Crusade but I do know that she keeps nabbing some good Damsels.
by: Shonemitsu
A'rlen Sirushi did not get as much attention this year as she had been getting the previous years. Shame, I know. Maybe 2025? Regardless, this little web of distress did happen and I'm glad Shonemitsu could finish this one before the year ended! And, yes, she's all caught up while in her Dragoon V glam. Poor Miqo'te!
by: OrangeBoyBC
With how much I've learned to love My Hero Academia as of late, it was only a matter of time until one of them gets targeted (other than a quick cameo from Mt. Lady from Season One END). This time around, Arlen snags Jiro Kyoka for the Crusade. I do like that gal. She may not be the strongest, but I love her look. And, yeah, don't worry. More gals from MHA are coming!
by: Sovjann
I stopped watching Seven Deadly Sins some time ago. However, the two lead gals, Merlin and Dianne, always caught my attention. And while the latter got herself snatched for the Crusade during Season 2, Merlin's moment won the slot for 2024. Anime also seems to be the favorite to get more attention for this season, mind you.
by: AkinaSilver
Final Fantasy gals will never be ignored with my commissioning hobby. 2024, however, Arlen took it upon herself to nab FFT gals (Lavian & Alicia). And, of course, the Holy Knight Agrias would be nabbed because she's worth the effort. Akina did an awesome job drawing the energy that I wanted though with Arlen being so jovial while Agrias was so furious with the situation.
by: TheBoundArtist90
This beautiful artwork for Lathiira was drawn by the late TheBoundArtist90, who did an amazing job on it. RIP, friend. For those who are somewhat keen on Jessica Drew's first run, she had a lot of DiD shenanigans. Needless to say, plenty of references and/or homages to play with, eh? And Rogue is one of Lathiira's favorites; not necessarily this outfit but, hey, more Rogues are on the way.
by: OrangeBoyBC
The second time that OrangeBoyBC made the list. With this second piece, we got Nina of Wyndia from Breath of Fire 2 and 3. While BoF2 Nina is my favorite look for the Wyndian Princess, BoF3 was my BoF game until the day I got an emulator for my desktop and I played BoF2. So I couldn't drop one or the other so... Arlen nabbed both! And this is what we got! Though the Distress is more of a homage to a particular section of Breath of Fire 3.
by: Lust-DiD-Harem
This was the first time I worked with Lust and I must say I was impressed. Also, this commission was another dedication to Lathiira. This was for sure a lovely commission with a lot of heart put into it. I'm sure Lat would've asked for more ropes though!
by: Sovjann
Season One had a pretty comical start too and just as self-aware. But the idea with Season Two was all about amping it up with Arlen's antics. Since Arlen is now well into her mission, it's only fitting that she throws everything into it, right? I love this though! Sovjann did wonders!
01: Kaitlin Star
by: Llythium-Art
Yes, Llyth once again makes it to the top. And with the amount of Arlen's Crusade that made it to 2024's list, one would think it'd be one of those but, no, it's Llyth's artwork of Kaitlin Star that hit it. One can never go wrong commissioning Llyth with her signature "Commission Sketch". The gal was busy during 2024 but glad she and I were able to work together. Her contribution to Kaitlin's Front Page's 30th anniversary was a delight!
Conclusion
I had a great time with 2024! I know a lot of my commissioning time was spent for Arlen's Crusade, and honestly, it'll probably be more or less the same for 2025 and I'm sure the majority won't mind. Oh, and yes, Kaitlin got a bit more attention put into her, right? 2024 also brought me a couple of new artists in my commissioning gallery, which was fun. I intend to do some collaboration with other commissioners, which has garnered nothing but great things in the past. Yes, I have some plans for 2025!
So with that said, Happy New Year, folks, and here's to another fantastic Commissioning hobby!
Until Next Time!
